Born in Massachusetts and raised in New Hampshire–then finally in Maine–I stopped moving north when I ran out of country.

When raging unemployment muckled onto the state of Maine like a pitbull without a conscience (and is determined to stay latched on, to this day), I joined the Air Force. After 29 years of drifting (15 countries visited, and all 50 states checked off my bucket list), I finally retired, only to return to work for the government the next day.
While I was in the service, I was lucky enough to write for military newspapers, as well as a stint as a columnist for the Rome Observer when I lived in upstate New York. A few years ago, once the kids were in college, I decided to write a novel. It was just that simple–sit down and write a novel–except not. My first effort, a Western called Hell With A Gun, stayed buried deep in the confines of my computer, patiently waiting another edit (or two or four). Then I wrote Easy Street. I love the tough-guy-with-a-heart writings of Robert Parker and Raymond Chandler, and I wanted my tough guy, Paul Doyle, to be a bit like Spenser and Philip Marlowe, with my own twist thrown in for good measure.

Read Reviews by My Readers

I had the honor of reading an advanced reading copy of this detective/mystery book many months ago. I've just purchased a copy of my own for my iPod to keep. I'm so happy to see the book is finally published and out for purchase. This story is fast paced, well written and will have you smiling and turning pages as you watch the main character transform and develop just as the case develops. The author has done some great research and weaves a beautifully well written tale of mystery, murder, plot and character emotion as this is not just your flat, two dimensional detective, rather a guy who's got many layers, quick wit and intelligence. I do love his sense of humor and enjoyed the trips into the underbelly of strip clubs as the detective Paul Doyle works to find a missing stripper. The story keeps you interested in the tale and, of course, the outcome. I look forward to more from this author.

Upholding the conventions of a classic 19th century American Western, Hell with a Gun: The Legend of Elton Collins is a well-written book about love, loss, heroism, and one’s will to survive. Elton Collins, the protagonist of the novel, spent two decades of his life trying to erase his “dark, violent, and deadly” gun slinging days. However, sometimes, one’s past finds a way of catching up, and it caught up with Collins… I was barely able to put this book down as it hooked me right from the start! The characters were as likeable as they were despicable, the plot was equal parts suspense and heartbreak, and the ending was judicious. Although the grimness was difficult to read at times, this book is an excellent Western nonetheless!

With this debut novel, the author has created an unforgettable character with Paul Doyle, Private Investigator. The writing is clever, humorous, and suspenseful! With a colorful cast of characters who range from a reverend to a stripper, the plot unfolds with twists and turns that keep you turning pages. The action starts on the first page, so be prepared to be pulled along for the ride. I look forward to the next book in this series!

The voice in this PI novel is perfect and had me laughing along the way as Paul Doyle tried to find the missing girl. This book is full of great characters that jump off the page, plenty of action, and twists and turns I didn't see coming. A must read, especially for any noir fans out there.
